Manipulation is a therapeutic approach that involves a quick impulse to a joint with the intent of restoring motion to the joint. By restoring more normal mobility, manipulation can be useful in relieving pain and restoring function to painful and stiff joints. Manipulation can be an effective tool in the treatment of neck and back pain, as well as other non-spinal areas such as shoulders, knees, ankles etc.
Dr. Pethrick and Dr. Ledger have been performing ART for over 10 years, and have instructed ART for over 5 years. Both have completed post-graduate levels of ART training, and incorporate ART regularly into their practices ART is a form of soft tissue therapy that incorporates the best of movement, stretching and pressure points. The end result is that ART minimizes the scar tissue between structures such as muscles or ligaments, reducing pain and restoring function. In order to become an ART provider, each professional must pass rigorous hands on and written tests. An ART provider is trained to identify over 300 sites of muscular injury and over 100 sites of nerve irritation.
ART is an effective treatment that can be tailored to the specific needs of almost anyone. If you have symptoms of pain, burning, numbness or tingling, ART may be for you, even if you have tried other treatments without success.
ART providers are specifically trained to detect and deal effectively with scar tissue. The treatment is not only appropriate for all levels of athlete, but also for automobile injuries or work related accidents, as well as those suffering from repetitive injuries such as tennis/golfers elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome or other painful conditions.
Some conditions that may benefit from ART: Carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis/golfers elbow, tingling in arms or legs, shoulder pain, shin splints, snapping hip, neck pain, low back pain, upper back pain, headaches, iliotibial band syndrome, plantar fascistic, groin pain, knee pain, many overuse and chronic repetitive strain injuries.

Dr. Ledger and Dr. Pethrick have performed dry needling for over 10 years using the Gokavi Transverse Technique. While sterile acupuncture needles are utilized, these are inserted into areas of muscular tightness with the intent of releasing the trigger points and relieving pain. When the trigger point is released, pain can be substantially reduced and the trigger point size decreased. Each trigger point area is released to provide optimum pain relief. The treatment takes approximately 10 minutes
Dr. Pethrick and Dr. Ledger have been utilizing acupuncture for over 10 years within their scope of Chiropractic practice in the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal disorders.
Acupuncture is an ancient technique historically developed in China. It involves insertion of thin sterile single use needles at specific acupuncture points for about 15 minutes. Acupuncture stimulates the body's natural pain killing chemicals and assisting in the relaxation of tight muscles. This can, in turn, decrease pain and increase function.
Acupuncture is safe and can be an effective treatment of many pain problems such as shoulder pain, back pain, neck pain, headaches, etc.
By working within a multidisciplinary setting, and frequently incorporating chiropractic treatment with other professionals, Drs. Ledger and Pethrick attempt to blend the best of traditional chiropractic treatment with Active Release Techniques and needling treatments. At the initiation of treatment, an estimate of treatment duration is given, typically 6-9 treatments. If goals are not achieved within that time, then consideration is given to alternative management. Treatment is frequently co-ordinated with concurrent treatment by another professional at Legacy Sport Medicine or in the community.
